Peter Podlunšek, member of the Aeroklub Murska Sobota, is a sportsman in the discipline of aerobatic flying, in which he is at the very top, and prides himself on excellent achievements by the national as well as international standards.
The desire to fly has been living in him since the first years of primary school. First he was making model aircrafts in his modeling class, as a sixteen-year old boy he passed his exams for a glider pilot and at twenty-one he already finished his education for an engine powered aircraft pilot. In 1994 he took up aerobatic flying. Under the guidance of his friend and an experienced aerobatic pilot he advanced quickly and won third place at his first national championship in aerobatic flying. He began taking part in the club competitions in Murska Sobota with the club's aircraft Zlin 50M which, having become inefficient for his needs, he replaced by buying his own in 1999 – the model EXTRA 230. With this aircraft he had some troubles at the meeting in Cerklje in 2000. The accident deprived him of almost two flying seasons, during which time he made a decision to buy a new aerobatic aircraft, this time one of the world's best aerobatic aircrafts. In 2003 he chose the best two-seater aerobatic aircraft EXTRA 300L with outstanding technical characteristics. With the EXTRA 300L Peter Podlunšek achieved amazing results and in this way became one of the best airshow pilots in the world.
In the nineteen years of active flying, Peter Podlunšek collected more than 800 flying hours, 300 of those being aerobatic flying. In the past four years he took part in more than 150 flying events in Slovenia and abroad. His performances are distinguished by a programme filled with dynamics and variety including the most demanding aerobatic manoeuvres which confirm the pilot's topmost skills. His specialty is the gyroscope manoeuvre, i.e. the aircraft's simultaneous rotation around all three axes and performing the most challenging manoeuvres at a very low height. Peter Podlunšek is the only Slovene pilot at present to master the gyroscope manoeuvre from every aircraft position.
